Anlong village is located along the upper reaches of the Jin River in Pixian County, Sichuan province, near Chengdu. It aims to become a “model sustainable and ecological village.” It all started because the great amount of fertilizers used in the upper reaches of the village were causing increasing damage to the quality of Jin river water, a threat to the daily life of Chengdu’s 10,000,000 inhabitants, and to the environmental quality of the Min and Chang river.
In November 2005, the Chengdu Urban Rivers Association (CURA) initiated a project along the Funan River. The project aims to set up a sustainable agriculture with “ecological benefits” in the upper reaches of Anlong village. (...)
