The city of Panzhihua is located in Sichuan province, south-west China, on the confluence of the Jinsha and Yalong Rivers, tributaries of the Yangtze River. In 1965, it was still a wasteland. But after 40 years of industrial development, Panzhihua has become a city of more than one million inhabitants with an urbanization rate of 56.6% and a GDP close to 3000 US dollars. The average income also ranks as the highest in the Sichuan province.
